How to uninstall Windows 8.1 Preview

Yesterday Microsoft has released Windows 8.1 Preview and Windows RT 8.1 Preview version of Windows 8.1.Windows 8.1 Preview and Windows RT 8.1 Preview include enhancements in personalization, search, apps, the Windows Store, and cloud connectivity, and have the security and reliability features too. Both Previews are pre-release version of the Windows 8.1 and intended for developers, IT professionals and technology experts to continue or begin their testing of Windows 8.1.

Windows 8.1

Windows 8.1 Preview and Windows RT 8.1 Preview are stable and have been thoroughly tested, but aren’t the finished product and your PC could crash and you could lose important files. But if you want to install Windows 8.1 Preview, you can download it using Windows Store and also using Standalone ISO’s. But what if you wants to uninstall Windows 8.1 Preview ?

Can I uninstall Windows 8.1 Preview ?

Basically uninstallation of  the preview isn’t supported. But you can restore your entire system to its factory condition.

If your PC came with Windows 8 you can use PC refresh to restore it back to Windows 8. When you use PC refresh, your personal files won’t be affected, but you need to reinstall apps that did not come with the PC. If you’re running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, you can’t uninstall the preview. To go back to your previous operating system, you’ll require the recovery or installation media that came with your PC (typically DVD media). If you don’t have recovery media you might be able to create it before you update from a recovery partition on your PC because after the installation of Windows 8.1 Preview you won’t be able to use the recovery partition on your PC to go back to your previous version of Windows.

Note : If you’re currently using Windows RT, you won’t be able to uninstall Windows RT 8.1 Preview. You’ll be able to upgrade to the final edition of Windows RT 8.1 when it becomes available.

If you’re running Windows 8 and you install the preview using the ISO, you won’t be able to uninstall it. You’ll need to reinstall Windows 8 using recovery or installation media that came with your PC.

Windows 8.1 preview has turned my computer into an unstable mess. I get random stutter and sometimes it freezes and forces me to shutdown my computer.

Same happens with me.. But as they have said that this isn’t the finished product and our PC could crash, freeze too .. :(

I refrain from any beta stuff anymore. As it clearly states, its a developer tool for evaluating compatibility. Its not about day to day application and software use. What I don’t understand is why some apps will break with 8.1? Even some drivers are having issues from what I read? I guess I want that feature that gives me my traditional desktop OS back. Don’t see it really happening with 8.1.

What a joke. Who’s idea was it to make this update un-installable?
